Chad Stahelski who helmed the previous three movies will return to direct John Wick: Chapter 4. Parabellum became one of the highest-grossing movies in the action series in 2019 collecting a whopping $181 million worldwide and with the upcoming movie, it is sure to be a canon.

Release date

John Wick 4 was initially scheduled to release on May 21, 2021. However, the release date had to be pushed back due to the ongoing pandemic and moreover, Keanu Reeves was also filming “The Matrix 4: Resurrection” at that time. Currently, the release date has been scheduled for March 24, 2023. It was also reported that John Wick 5 is also in development.

In the upcoming movie, it’s expected that most of the old faces will return to reprise their respective roles which obviously, without a doubt include Keanu Reeves. Joining him are Ian McShane, Donnie Yen, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Bill Skarsgård, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zaror, and Clancy Brown.

John Wick: Chapter 4 Plot: What to expect from the story?

As of now plot details for John Wick 4 is not revealed yet as it’s been kept secret. But we can expect the story to pick up from the previous movie which ended in a major cliffhanger as we witnessed that John entirely detached himself from the assassin group known as The High Table. The leader of the group thinks that John is no longer alive as he was shot by Winston from the roof of a high building but John is still alive but is severely injured and is under the care of The Bowery King.

Speaking to Collider, Laurence Fishburne disclosed that John Wick 4, unlike the previous movies, will seek to go in-depth into the mythology encircling this world.

He said, “I read the script. It’s really, really cool. As much as it’s the same world as the other three films, it’s just deeper. It’s much deeper in terms of the code of the assassin and the relationship that he has with one character in particular…is really the heart and soul of it.”

Stahelski in a chat with IndieWire was quite determined wherever John Wick: Chapter 4 is headed to, the ending will not be a happy one.

Heexplained, “John may survive all this shit, but at the end of it, there’s no happy ending. He’s got nowhere to go. Honestly, I challenge you right now, here’s a question to you: How do you fucking want me to end it? Do you think he’s going to ride off into the fucking sunset? He’s killed 300 fucking people and he’s just going to [walk away], everything’s okay? He’s just going to fall in love with a love interest? If you’re this fucking guy, if this guy really exist[ed], how is this guy’s day going to end? He’s fucked for the rest of his life. It’s just a matter of time.”

The action-packed movie led by Keanu Reeves is scheduled to arrive nearly a year later than the last release date of May 27, 2022. The new release date for John Wick: Chapter 4

Lionsgate officially declared the new air date for John Wick: Chapter 4 in a teaser posted on the official social media channels that reads: “ Be seeing you.” As of now, Lionsgate have not provided any statement regarding the film’s delay, it seems that the film has been pushed back to 2023 because production has halted and is yet to commence in Japan, as per Deadline which notes that the film is being shot across the globe.
