The truth, however, is that Maya has been very private with her dating life and relationships. Until recently, she was seen hanging out with musician Spencer Barnett, and there are rumors about their dating.
Where did the rumors of Maya Hawke being lesbian arrive from?
There weren’t any scandals, but because Maya was so great at portraying her role as Robin in Stranger Things, people started believing she may be gay in real life.
But as good as she was in the series, she’s sexually straight and doesn’t share her on-screen character’s sexuality.
In the series, when Steve Harrington confesses to having a crush on his co-worker, Robin, she reveals she likes him but only as a friend.

Maya, in an interview, revealed that Steve’s and her chemistry was more like friends rather than lovers. And so it was better to keep it like that rather than ruin the dynamic between the characters.

As for portraying a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Maya spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about taking on the role.
“It’s such an amazing thing the Duffer Brothers did, stopping the whole show … There’s an action going on, and it stops for a seven-minute conversation between two people who really care for each other. It’s really a beautiful thing. I feel really lucky that I got to play that.”
She added, “The reason she has all these hard walls is that she doesn’t feel like she fits in. She feels like an odd one out. She’s gay, and nobody knows that.” Played out among the chaos surrounding them, this scene is a highlight of the whole series.

Maya Hawke’s parents are Ethane Hawke and Uma Thurman.
