After nearly 14 years, Indiana Jones 5 is finally making a comeback. The previous movie Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull helmed by Steven Speilberg was released back in 2008 and raked in a staggering $790 at the box office. It’s been decades and the Indiana Jones franchise is still very much in showbiz and has released four films over the years.
The fifth instalment was announced in 2016 but was delayed due to conflicting schedules which caused the release date to be pushed back several times. It is now reported that the yet-untitled movie Indiana Jones 5 is in production. Actor Harrison Ford was spotted on the set and we’ll be seeing him return on the screen in Indiana Jones 5.
Who is directing Indiana Jones 5?
The fifth instalment will be the first Indiana Jones film that will not be helmed by Steven Spielberg as he stepped down from his duty. This time Indiana Jones 5 will be directed by James Mangold whom Speilberg himself chose to replace him to take over the directing duties in 2020. Steven Speilberg will work alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall as producers.
David Koepp, the writer for the previous movie Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was apparently working on the fifth instalment screenplay for Spielberg, but he was then replaced by Jonathan Kasdan and Dan Fogelman in 2018. Koepp again returned in 2019 to work on the project but when Speilberg was no longer directing the movie, Koepp eventually decided to depart as well.
He explained: “When James Mangold came in … he deserves a chance to take his shot at it. I’d done several versions with Steven. And when Steven left, it seemed like the right time to let Jim have his own take on it and have his own person or himself write it.”
The Indiana Jones 5 Release Date: When is it?
After several delays, Indiana Jones 5 is finally slated for a release on July 30, 2023. We just hope that it doesn’t get pushed back again.
Cast
We saw Indy and Marion Ravenwood get hitched during the final moments of the third movie and we expect Karen Allen to make a return. Some of the old faces we want to see them return on the screen are John Rhys-Davies (as Sallah), and Jim Broadbent (as Charles Stanforth) but so their returns have not been confirmed.
Meanwhile, there are a few cast additions which we are extremely excited to see what’s coming for us although some of the roles have been confirmed yet. Here are the names:
-Antonio Banderas has joined the cast of Indiana Jones 5
-Toby Jones will be seen as Indy’s sidekick
-Boyd Holbrook- unnamed role
-Shaunette Renée Wilson- unnamed role
-Mads Mikkelsen will be seen playing as the main antagonist
-Thomas Kretschmann- unnamed role
Plot
The filmmakers are tight-lipped when it comes to the storyline and have not revealed what it’s going to be like. But looking at the timeline, the film is likely to be set in the 1960s-70s theme. There were also rumours that the movie will be set in space. From what we have seen, the pictures of Ford Harrison while shooting for the movie were fighting the Nazis, we can’t say for sure yet but the movie is expected to have a flashback sequence.
For now, it’s best to wait for more information as it is very confusing with all these rumours and speculations and before we make any further assumptions. We’ve waited so long for our beloved character, Indy to return and there’s no harm in some more waiting right?
