It’s been over a decade since Warner Bros produced the eighth film of the Harry Potter Franchise, Harry Porter and Deathly Hollows part two that marked the end of this fabled franchise. Harry Potter introduced the viewers to a world of magic, hopes, adventures, and friendships. Even after this while, fans have not forgotten the Hogwarts school of Witchcraft Wizardry and the series core cast. Maybe that’s the reason why fans are looking forward to more parts of Harry Potter. In 2016, JK Rowling piqued the curiosity of fans by developing a stage play, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child along with Barta Awards winner, Jack Thorne, and Tony awards winner, John Tiffany, that landed at the London Palace Theatre in June 2016, and was later opened on Broadway in 2018 spring. The play received a strong critical reception, while the viewers found it resembling fan-fiction, and rehashing the original series, and setting.
With that said, several rumors are surfacing about the adaption of the 2016 play into a film “ Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.” Disappointingly, there is no official statement released relating to this, however, there is no reason why it must not be on the cards. So, here’s what we know so far about The Harry Potter and The Cursed Child film:
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Plot
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child sees a time jump of 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, part two. The series end saw Harry Potter’s younger son, Albus all set to attend Hogwarts school of witchcraft and Wizardry, as a freshman. While the 2016 JK Rowling play portrays Harry Potter fighting his past demons and painfully recalling his seven-year-old rivalry with Voldemort, Albus is having a hard time living his family legacy. The father-son duo realizes that sometimes, darkness comes from expected places.
Chris Columbus is keen to Direct Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
Chris Columbus who was at the helm of Harry Potter’s first two films, expressed his interest to direct Harry Potter and The Cursed Child in an interview with Variety. He stated that he loved the play, and, it will be an ideal time to bring the main cast back reprising their original roles. Although it will be a delight to see Harry and the company returning to the screens, things will take time to materialize.
Columbus passed the bait to the academy winner, Alfonso Cuaron, who served as a director of Prisoner of Azkaban, followed by Mike Newell, and David Yates, who also worked as a director on the series.
Rupert Grint’s Response When Asked about Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
Additionally, Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly) said during an interview discussing the new season of his Apple+ series, Servants, that the character of Ron Weasly is special for him. And it was weird to watch someone else playing his character in the stage play. Moreover, there is no denying that the franchise has helped several actors in building a long-term career in the film industry.
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Cast
Since the producers have not confirmed the rumors circulating about the film, there are no official casting details for Harry Potter and The Cursed Child at this moment.
However, we’d love to see the core cast of Harry Potter including Daniel Redcliffe as Hary Potter, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy, and Jade Gordon as Astoria Malfoy making a comeback.
