Announcement of the Film Adaptation
Cynthia Erivo, a Tony Award-winning actress, is slated to star in a film adaptation of the hit play “Prima Facie”. In addition to her role in front of the camera, she will also be involved behind the scenes as an executive producer. The film is a joint venture between Participant and Bunya Productions, and it will be produced in association with Erivo’s company, Edith’s Daughter. BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker Susanna White will direct the film, while the script will be penned by Suzie Miller, the playwright behind the original stage play.

As a rising star in the high-powered London legal system, Tessa is adept at defending her clients, including those accused of sexual assault. However, her world is turned upside down when she is raped by a colleague, leading her to discover the harsh truth that the law often falls short when it comes to delivering justice along the boundaries of consent.

Cynthia Erivo is currently involved in another major project, filming a two-part adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked” where she plays the role of Elphaba. Speaking about the “Prima Facie” project, Erivo has expressed her excitement to join the team and to explore the character of Tessa, a role that was portrayed by Jodie Comer in the play’s Broadway production. Comer’s performance earned her an Olivier Award and a Tony nomination
