The remake of 80’s classic “Road House” is gearing up to make a comeback in 2023 starring Jake Gyllenhaal along with now confirmed cast Billy Magnussen and Daniela Melchior.
For those who don’t know the classic gem, the original “Road House” was released in 1989 starring Patrick Swayze portraying premier security called in to calm down rowdiness in a club and fight off the corrupt business tycoon behind the scenes. The film gained vast popularity mainly because of Swayze’s skills, as well as many of the more top-notch R-rated brutality that is common in the film. The remake is going to be a teensy bit different with Gyllenhaal expected to portray a former UFC fighter that takes up the job of a bouncer at an overcrowded rowdy club in the Florida Keys. And just like the original, the bouncer in the remake will discover not everything is what it appears to be.
“‘Road House’ is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie,” stated Jennifer Salke, boss of Amazon Studios. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.”
“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved ‘Road House’ legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role,” director Doug Liman said.
“The original ‘Road House’ has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to bring this newly imagined version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one,” added producer Joel Silver.
Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) and Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die, Aladdin) will be joining Gyllenhaal along with other cast members including Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Hannah Love Lanier (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Travis Van Winkle (You), B.K. Cannon (Why Women Kill), Arturo Castro (Broad City), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (Seven Seconds), and Bob Menery.
As of now, the specific air date for the “Road House” remake is yet to be announced, but the Amazon Prime film is currently in production.
