Finally, after a long two freaking years, Asur (the most awaited series since 2020) is all set for its comeback with a brand new season.
In this article, we’ll cover everything regarding the upcoming installment of the Asur. Additionally, Arshad Warsi, the lead role and a CID officer tweeted, “I am happy to start filming again.” This in turn confirms the arrival of Asur Season 2.
Asur Season 2: Recap
Asur is a Hindi-language crime suspense drama, psychological thriller series that was first aired on 2 March 2020. Produced by Tanveer Bookwala of Ding Entertainment and Viacom 18 Studios, it is based on an American TV series named ‘True Detective’.
This crime thriller is created by Gaurav Shukla, Shweta More, and Vibhav Shikdar under the supervision of Oni Sen (as a director). Moreover, the story of this much-awaited series was written by Gaurav Shukla, Niren Bhatt, Abhijeet Khuman, and Pranay Patwardhan.
The story of the series revolves around a murderer with mythological beliefs born in the city of Varanasi. Nikhil Nair, a forensic expert, CID officer, and his former mentor, Dhananjay Rajpoot (ACP, CID) investigated a brutal serial killing murder case. ALL-IN-ALL, this series was immensely appreciated by the critics. Within a short period, especially during the first phase of lockdown, Asur managed to create a huge fan base.
Asur Season 2: Release Date
Keeping the fandom and success of the first edition in mind, we can undoubtedly expect the arrival of Asur Season 2. The previous season ended with an open ending. We saw Rasool Shaikh. Asur hasn’t been caught yet. The question remains a mystery – Will Dhananjay Rajput be able to catch the real Rasool? However, due to the sudden rise in the COVID cases, the filming was postponed. Later, on July 16, 2021, the shooting began, and as per the rumor, the filming is on its verge of completion.
As of now, no official announcement has been made from Voot as well as the production team. Barish Sobti who plays Nikhil Nair in the series had completed filming in January 2022. Hopefully, now we can anticipate seeing the upcoming season of Asur anytime in 2022.
Asur Season 2: Cast
Leaving the characters (Lolark Dubey dies in the first season) who died in the first edition of Asur, we can expect the arrival of most of the cast. However, Viacom has not yet confirmed the cast of the Asur season 2. Characters including Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti, Anupriya Goenka, Ridhi Dogra, Amey Wagh, and Vishesh Bansal may be seen in their existing role as they were.

- Nishank Verma will play as Samarth Ahuja and many more characters from the previous season.
Moreover, we can also expect the arrival of some new faces as well. According to the leaks and rumors, Adithi Kalkunte, Meiyang Chang, Ajoy Chakraborty, Vikas Suryavanshi, and Barkha Sengupta would be seen in the upcoming installment.
Asur Season 2: What will be the plot?
Well, as of now, there are no clues regarding the plot of the Asur season 2. It would be impossible to predict any short storyline with minor clues from season 1. However, we can probably anticipate seeing Dhananjay with his CID teams dealing against the group of serial killers headed by Rasool Shaikh. Asur is not just a Voot released web series, it was also premiered on Zee5 and MX player. The series managed to gather huge responses and popularity throughout the country and even across the world. Additionally, the series due to its cinematography and cast was highly appreciated by the critics. The series itself got fantastic ratings on all the rating websites including IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Asur holds a rating of 8.5 out of 10 rating with 38000+ ballots voting whereas, on Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 94% audience approval rating.
