Popular Bollywood singer Armaan Malik has taken to reddit to express his disappointment over the lack of fair compensation for singers in the industry. In a recent post on Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” forum, Malik stated that many singers, especially those working with A-list actors, receive no payment or only a token amount for their work on music projects. He criticized the actors’ belief that they will earn more from performances and shows if the song does well, referring to it as “stupid logic.”
Upon asking, Do bollywood singers get paid for songs they sing for movie? he responded
Rs. 0 and especially if you’re working with A-Listers to you can’t even ask. Coz according to them when this song does well, we’ll be doing shows and earning from that. Stupid logic but yeah this is the sad truth. Sometimes you do get paid a token amount, but I get paid way way better in the South Industry than when I sing for Bollywood.
Malik went on to reveal that he earns significantly more in the South Indian music industry compared to Bollywood. His candid remarks have sparked a conversation about the need for fair compensation for singers and other creative professionals in the entertainment industry.
I perform 90% Live on all my concerts. There are some tracks where I have backing vocals to support me when i’m tired or i’m dancing and singing.
But these Award shows, World Cup Opening/Closing events are all lip sync. Even i am forced to lip sync at these sort of events. The reason for that is lack of time for proper soundcheck and for the organisers the focus is sport and the game rest everything is just done from an entertainment POV. They don’t care how it looks, they just want it done and off you go!
