The popular reality singing competition is officially returning with its 21st season and you don’t want to miss out on this.
On July 28, 2022, ABC declared openly the delightful news of the judges return and shared the news that fan favorite Ryan Seacrest will be returning as the show’s host for the new season.
Joining Seacrest in the next season are celebrity judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan where the trio will be returning as the panelists once again.
Entertainment Weekly talked with the show’s judges at the 20th season finale earlier this year, where they revealed their interest in return for another season.
“We’re planning on it,” Bryan said. “It was already American Idol, but we’ve made it a different deal, and we’re really proud of that.”
“I told them, I’m good for another 40 or 50 years,” Richie added.
The official outline of the reality program states:
“The gold standard of all music competition series, American Idol returns for a new season as superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie set out on a journey across the nation to discover a new crop of inspiring talent with a touch of Disney magic on The ABC Television Network.”
The forthcoming season will mark the twenty-first season overall and the sixth season on the ABC network.

American Idol Season 21 Release Date
Currently, ABC has not yet provided the official air date for the new season of the singing competition show. But the network did announce that the program will be out somewhere in Spring 2023.
If we had to predict an air date, season 21 could most likely land on the screens at some point between February or March of 2023. Previous seasons were also released around that time frame. But since the network mentioned spring 2023, it is highly expected that the premiere date points toward March although this is merely just a speculation for now.
After some years of extreme decreasing ratings beginning in 2012, with rating drops of about 20 percent each season, the 15th season would be its final on Fox, ceasing its run in April 2016. However, in May 2017, ABC obtained the privileges to the show, and the reality series came back for the 2017–18 TV season. The 16th season overall of the revived program or the 1st season on ABC was launched in March 2018. As of now, a total of five seasons have been released on the network. The sixth season or the 21st season overall is set to launch in 2023.

The contestants for the upcoming season are not revealed yet but we do know that auditions commenced across the nation on August 3, 2022, in search of the next big music sensation. Further details are to be announced as we wait for the arrival of the next season of American Idol.
