Will there be a season 3 of All Creatures Great and Small?
Speaking to journalists ahead of the show’s season 2 premiere in the UK last month, showrunner Ben Vanstone confirmed that “there’s plenty more to come.” Asked specifically about a third season, he said: “Yes, I think we are looking forward to a third series. I don’t think that’s a surprise.” That said, we can surely expect the third edition of the series!
Furthermore, Vanstone revealed that the show could go on for much longer than he originally planned. When he first began planning a series adaptation of James Herriot’s books, he thought of it as a four-season show. But now that the show has taken off and developed a life of its own on screen, he’s reconsidering – in part, thanks to the deliberately slow pace that fans love.
“I think that when we started the show, we had in mind arcs for these characters that took them across a number of series,” he said. “Initially, it was kind of four series. But everything in this show plays out slower than you think it would. I think in other shows, you sort of risk the need to have more stories and more action and more things happening, but with our show, it’s the antithesis of that. We kind of give everything time.”
All Creatures Great and Small season 3 release date?
Samuel West, who plays veterinary surgeon Siegfried Farnon in the show, revealed the news that filming was starting back in March. He tweeted: “Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus bawb [“Happy St. David’s Day everyone” in Welsh] / And happy first day of meteorological Spring, all.
“And WHITE RABBITS, from #AllCreaturesGreatAndSmall (mostly small). We start filming Series 3 tomorrow.”
All Creatures Great and Small season 3 is expected to air on Channel 5 in late 2022. This, however, is yet to be confirmed!

Meanwhile Rachel Shenton reprises her role as Helen Alderson, a local farmer’s daughter whose will-they-won’t-they romance with James was finally resolved at the end of season two.
In April 2021, it was also announced that Miranda star Patricia Hodge will play Mrs Pumphrey, following the death of Dame Diana Rigg last year. The broadcaster released a first-look at Patricia Hodge in All Creatures Great and Small in August, ahead of season two.
